Woodstock Lafayette - Lafayette Art & Wine Festival

Lafayette's 2019 “Rock the Plaza” concert series is a tribute to the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock

50 years? Really? Yes, Really! Are you old enough to remember Woodstock? Three days of fun and music and nothing but fun and music! In Watkins Glen, New York organizers are preparing for the anniversary festival. Most of the acts like Jay-Z, Chance the Rapper, Miley Cyrus, Portugal the Man and the Killers will bring a new vibe to celebrate the golden anniversary of the “granddaddy” festival of all time. There will still be some familiar faces, like Santana and what is left of the Grateful Dead.

While this plays out, Woodstock is also alive and well in Lafayette, California.

Woodstock Lafayette is a free, four-concert series held on Friday evenings in June in a beautiful park in Downtown Lafayette, just 20 minutes east of San Francisco and an easy 5-minute walk from Lafayette BART.

Woodstock Lafayette will feature music from that special time when free spirit, peace, love and compassion became the principles young people embraced and music was at the heart of the movement.

The lineup includes some of the Bay Area’s best cover bands that feature the music of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Santana, Jimi Hendrix and the many artists that played at the original Woodstock event:

When organizers struggled to get bands to sign on for the original festival, they made a breakthrough when they got an agreement from Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR). They were paid $10,000. So, our first show on June 7th, will feature the Fog City Swampers, doing CCR covers.

On June14th, ZEBOP! brings us the sounds of Santana. Yes, they will do Soul Sacrifice. Bring your percussion instruments for the “Woodstock Drum Circle!"

On June 21st, just move over and let Jimi take over with Purple Haze! We finish the series with the The Keep On Truckin’ Band, who will feature songs from many of the artists that played Woodstock.

We are transforming Lafayette Plaza Park to take you all back to 1969. Each concert is a two-hour set from the featured band, and includes the kind of live announcements and interruptions that live in the colorful history of Woodstock lure.

Jay Lifson, Executive Director of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and long-time Dead Head.

Lafayette’s Rock the Plaza series, now in its 14th season, takes place Friday nights in June at Lafayette’s Plaza Park at the corner of Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Moraga Road. The bands play from 6:30pm – 8:30pm.

Lafayette is also home to the annual Lafayette Art, Wine & Music Festival, the 2-day award winning festival held each year during the third weekend in September that draws upwards of 85,000 people from across the Bay Area. 4 stages, with 20+ tribute bands. Free admission. 2019 dates are September 21st and 22nd. Sign up here to receive Lafayette Festival updates via email.
